Dont flirt with the Veterinarian ... dont flirt with the Veterinarian ... dont flirt with the Veterinarian ... *rofl*

Biltmore

Had an AWESOME weekend with the bf at Biltmore and Asheville. Will write more details later, but everything went really well.

Had some "interesting" weather (BIG thunderboomers at night, hail while driving, lightning strikes right next to the road, etc...).

Walked around the Estate, the gardens, the winery, did the wine sampling ... saw downtown Asheville (which is a story in itself). Ate dinner at a piano bar, and lunch at an irish pub ... and one of my favorite parts was hanging out at the hotel reading the local newspaper (local entertainmement, weekend happenings, reviews, etc.) out loud to each other. Ads and adverts.

More later, like I mentioned above. d:)

Lickin' Lips

A coworker had to stop by to pick something up from her desk today, so she stopped by Starbucks and brought me a Caramel Macchiato. *drool* *melt* I havent had one of these in aaaaaages. I dont care that it's 90-something degrees outside ... the 'iced' version just didnt sound as appealing. There are times when coworkers can really come in handy!!!! d:)

Today is Alan's Birthday!!! Right about now, he was being born many moons ago! (It was around lunchtime, he said ... ) To celebrate, we're going to Asheville this weekend, to spend time at Biltmore Estate.

One Warped Alberto

I just got a recording from emergency management.

"As a result of yesterdays' rainful from Tropical Storm Alberto we are experiencing moderate flooding along middle creek, swift creek, and the Neuse River in Johnston County. The river is expected to crest late friday afternoon. Please be aware of the dangers associated with high water and be prepared to evacuate if necessary."

Evacuate? What an odd word. The sun is shining currently, neighbors are out cutting their grass. I was doing yardwork earlier today. Just doesnt look like an "evacuation" situation from where I'm sitting, but, like, wow.

*ponder*

Add to the day ... tornados and turtles.

Due to the remnants of the tropical storm, there was supposedly a tornado in the area. I was curled up in bed, reading. Didnt have the news on. The BF called, checking to make sure everyone in my household was safe. About an hour before, I had noticed the pickup in the weather ... high winds, rain, etc...

So I got up and looked around outside. Small branches and leaf debris down. The dogs are looking out the windows with me. Riley, the collie, starts growling. There's a turtle hiking it's way down the driveway. He's offended by turtles, we ran in to one the other day while doing yardwork, but that's another story.

What an odd day. I think I'll make some popcorn, sit and see what else is yet to come.

Much Wetness

It's wet. Very very wet. We're getting (I guess T.D.) Alberto. Rain rain rain. I'm glad I got the backyard cut yesterday, but wish I'd cut the front yard. I got a phone call, a friend needed help running an errand, I stopped by the grocery store and then it was raining. C'est la vie.

I'd cut a rose bud the other day, it bloomed in it's vase over night. Sunny Delight. It's absolutely gorgeous!! It's just about the color of the fruit drink by the same name. A sunshine yellow, with a very slight tinge of orange around the tips of the petals. I'm not sure a picture can do it justice, but I'll try and take one anyway.

The dogs are bugging me for their breakfast, they're going to be going stir-crazy cooped up inside with me today. Sorry ... *I* am going to be going stir-crazy, cooped up inside with THEM all day ... Willow seems to think that fixing their breakfast is more important than updating my blog. Guess she's right........

Quick Willow Update

Willow has Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP) on top of her Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) ... the ITP is the new mess. Her immune system thinks her platelets are a foreign body ... a cancer ... so they're busy attacking them and killing them.

As soon as we get some more antibiotics pumped in to her for the urinary tract infection, we can start treating the ITP with a drug called Imuran, and a small dose of Prednisone.

At least the bone marrow testing didnt find any true signs of cancer ... her bone marrow is healthy, creating platelets as it should. So once we dumb down her immune system, hopefully her platelets will get a chance to recover. We're hoping we wont have to keep her on the drugs forever, hopefully once we stabilize her, we can start lowering the dosage, make sure she stays stable, her body will get used to having a normal level of platelets, then gradually re-introduce her immune system.

I keep telling Willow that she doesnt need to be sick, in order to be special. I'll still love her if she's healthy!!

Quite an Odd Thing

One of the weirdest things I think I've ever done ...

The other day, I was cutting grass. I had my hair pulled back using two different ponytail holders. One hair scrunchy, and one hair elastic. The hair elastic was getting on my nerves, so I decided to just use one ponytail holder. I didnt have any pockets and couldnt figure out what to do with the elastic so I wouldnt lose it.

In my infinite wisdom, I considered the shape and size. Round, fairly small, light weight ...

So I wrapped it around my ear.

Perfect fit! Couldnt even feel it.

Nope. Couldnt even feel it. Which is why I forgot it was there.

I was in the shower, hours later, and felt something behind my ear. I've had ticks and bugs hop on board when I've been out doing yardwork before, so I panicked and scratched my ear. The hair band went flying off. I almost climbed the walls of the shower, until I realized what it was, and that it was NOT going to attack me.

*SIGH*

I have Very Little Brain sometimes.

Willowness

Went for the platelet count. After being on the new drug for over a week, her platelets continued to drop, this time to 45000. The new drug, for infectious diseases, isnt working. The number should have been significantly higher.

She needs to go on the Immuno-Suppressive drugs, and probably stay on them. For the rest of her life? I dont know. I need to talk to a few people first.

Before that, I'm going to have them run another test ... I dont think it'll be too hard on her, it can be run under general anesthesia ... I'm scheduling her for a bone marrow aspirate on Tuesday. I've been considering it for the past few months, and might as well see if it tells us anything.
