Bush

(The plant, not the President)

I got up early this morning because I wanted to wash my sheets and pillows without heating the house and using extra energy ... (SO hot out during the day!!! Heat index today is supposed to be around 105) so I was out in the backyard with the dogs around 6am. We were on one of our 'fence perimeter walks', and I looked outside the fence and saw a little bit of color ... thought "that's a strange looking flower!" Looked around it, and nope ... it was a berry! There were a few in various shades of red, leading up to black. I guess it was some form of blackberry (because I'm OH-so-knowledgeable! If it's black, it's gotta be a blackberry, right? *grin*). It was just a little young bush with maybe 10 berries on it. It looked ok, so I tried one. Again, with my limited knowledge, it tasted like a blackberry ... so I had two wild berries for breakfast! (they were about the size of a pinky fingernail) I'm thinking I'll probably have some toast or something else as well ... I'm still a little hungry. d;)

So now I'm the proud owner of my very own something-berry bush! I think I'll make something-berry jam! d;)

Comments:
Funny you mention this because yesterday I had blackberries as an afternoon snack! I found a huge bunch of them growing out of the brush under my plum grove. The ones I picked were relatively small, like the ones you found. Sort of tart, but very pleasant! Blackberries are so good. :)
