Disturbing ...

I'm disturbed ... it's 9:30pm and the dogs and I are all watching Independence Day. Not sure where the cat is.

I heard a soft knocking at the front door. Bailey, always the first to react, started to bark and I got up to answer it. I dont have a peep hole in the front door, but I have a full-length front porch (runs the whole length of the house) and plenty of lights... so I peeked out the window. Didnt see anyone. So I opened the front door a crack, making sure that I had Willow, my german shepherd, by the collar in front of me ... Bailey barking at my feet, and Riley was just curious about what all was going on. Noone. I turned on the floodlight. Noone. *I* heard a knock. The dogs heard a knock. The logical conclusion is, they heard the dogs barking and left.

I went to the back door, turned on the backyard floodlight, and locked the door.

Now, my imagination has come up with an ILLOGICAL conclusion ... it was just a really big, confused, mutant bug that happened to be flopping helplessly against the door, since the door is dark blue ... same color as the night sky ... it was really trying to take a 'flying leap' but was going sideways instead of up ... and ... uh ...

Yeah. I'm really glad I've got three dogs. Out here in the (*cough*) "country", it gets really dark at night. Very few street lights, houses well spaced apart since everyone owns at least a half-acre. My subdivision has a lot of trees, so the lots are fairly private, and I'm at the end of a cul-de-sac that backs up to the woods ...

But I've always felt safe out here.

I dunno, I think I'm overly tired at the moment so my nerves are on edge. We were robbed when I was a kid, so I still tend to over-react to strange noises. Aaaand, there was just a -little- murder about a mile away last night/this morning (ok, one man stabbed two others)...

but like I said ... I've always felt safe out here. I still do. I wont be pulling out the guns just yet. d;)
